Morgan EV3: Electric three-wheeler
We haven’t hear much from about Morgan’s EV3 three-wheeler since the car’s initial launch back at the 2016 Geneva motor show.
The latest news is the Morgan has a new technical partner for the electric three-wheeler’s powertrain: Frazer-Nash Energy Systems and that EV3 production will start in ‘Q3 of 2018’.
Underneath the distinctly retro 1930s inspired exterior is a 62bhp water-cooled electric motor, which drives the rear wheel only
Power comes from a 21kWh lithium battery pack.
Morgan states a range of 193km (120 miles), which should prove just enough for this weekend cruiser. The EV3 accelerates from 0-100kmh in ‘less than’ 9.0 seconds, which is a touch disappointing given the 1983cc V-twin petrol version takes 6.0 seconds. Top speed is estimated to be 193kmh (115mph), which is probably as fast as you want to go in a 500kg combination of carbon, aluminium and wood.
Inside you’ll find a digital display showing range and charge, alongside a conventional speedometer. The EV3 gets a retro inspired gear selector switch, and period looking general switch gear.
Expect to part with around A$120K for an EV3 when the car goes into production in autumn 2018.
