Review: 2018 eZee Sprint Alfine 8 Commuter

If you are looking for a stylish ride, with torquey reliable power, that you can travel to work on without breaking a sweat, then the eZee Sprint Alfine 8 is for you.

Developed over seven years by the team the at Glow Worm Bikes in Sydney, the 2018 Sprint is a wonderfully equipped, beautifully built, low maintenance commuter with premium components throughout.

Featuring a light but strong aluminium frame, with an easy to live with step through design, the eZee Sprint runs a 200w hub motor matched to a Sinewave controller and Panasonic 36V 19Ah 700Wh lithium ion battery. Range is impressive with 50km of full-assist riding with gentle pedalling being achievable.

The bike is very easy to ride with an intuitive torque sensing bottom bracket matched to a super silky Shimano Alfine internal gear hub. The beauty of this set up is unlike traditional systems you don’t need to be pedalling to shift gears.

Braking is an often overlooked part of an electric bike, but the Sprint’s brakes have greet feel and plenty of stopping power thanks to Shinamo Alfine hydraulic disc brakes front and rear.

Adding to the reliability theme, the Sprint is supplied with some of the best ebiking tyres in the world. The Schwalbe Marathon Plus ‘flat less’ puncture resistant tyres offer excellent puncture protection, with most riders experiencing no flats in an ordinary year.

The Sprint Alfine 8 is currently priced at $4100, including battery and all the kit. It’s available from Glow Worm Bikes

Ride impressions

The eZee Sprint was a very easy to ride. I really loved having the throttle as well as the excellent and intuitive torque sensing pedal assist. I was impressed with the quality of the bike and the attention to details right down the large and stable centre kick stand. If you have ever tried to load anything even remotely heavy onto the back of your bike without a decent stand, you will know what I mean.

The motor had a surprisingly large amount of power with a very smooth delivery. This bike is great for climbing hills and is quick enough to keep up with city traffic. The ergonomics were great, with the handy step through design making it easy to get on and off. The bike stopped, turned and handled well, with the front suspension offering a plush ride and the ability to go up and down gutters comfortably.

The eZee Sprint Alfine 8 is a class leading commuters suitable for day to day travel. It would also appeal to small business owners needing a smaller delivery vehicle.
